Herzlich Willkommen und alles Gute im Neuen Jahr liebe Leser (allerlei Geschlechts) unseres Newsblogs und von Kobels Kunstwoche!

Einen Nachtrag zur Liste der im letzten Jahr Verstorbenen vorweg - Der Galerist Michael Schultz ist am 28.12.2021 kurz nach seinem 70. Geburtstag nach kurzer Krankheit gestorben. Zu seinen Lebzeiten wurden die gegen ihn erhobenen Vorwürfe nicht abschließend aufgeklärt.

Es war erstaunlich ruhig zum Jahreswechsel - nur die, die außerhalb der Deutschen Grenzen Feuerwerk besorgt hatten, konnten ein bisschen rumballern und die schlechten Geister des alten Jahres vertreiben. Allerdings zeigt sich Omikron gegen den alten Aberglauben ziemlich resitent und sorgt dafür, dass Reisen mühsamer wird und Anwesenheit an manchem Arbeitsplatz zur Ausnahme. Die Versicherungswirtschaft ist froh endlich ein neues Kapitel aufschlagen zu können und die Bücher für 2021 zu schließen. Waren es 2020 die durch die Pandemie bedingten Ausfallrisiken, die heute nicht mehr versicherbar sind, sind es 2021 Naturgefahren und Cyberkriminalität, die die Bilanzen neben den klassischen Risiken eines Sachversicherers verhageln. Im Versicherungsmaklermarkt wird fröhlich fusioniert und gekauft - hier stechen Ecclesia, GGW und Trowe hervor. Sogar MLP möchte jetzt die universitären Sphären verlassen und kauft sich Know-How im Industriegeschäft über Fusionen dazu. Österreich und Deutschland haben neue Bundeskanzler - nur in der Schweiz ist es immer noch der nämliche Bundesrat.

Die Gewichte im Kunstmarkt verschieben sich ein wenig nach Frankreich, Brexit sei Dank und aus Downing Street 10 kommt der Hinweis man möge den Begriff nicht mehr verwenden. Angesichts leerer Regale, schleppender medizinischer Versorgung und anderen Problemen in der Infrastruktur lernt das Inselvolk, dass splendid isolation ein Rezept aus den Jahrhunderten ist, in denen man noch ohne globale Vernetzung und Fremdsprache auskam. Vielleicht bestand darin aber der Irrtum - ausserhalb des Vereinigten Königreichs wird auch Englisch gesprochen... .

20 Jahre Euro, bereits mindestens zwei (nicht biologische) Generationen, die ohne nationale Währung aufwachsen - nicht nur für Reisende ist dadurch das Leben deutlich einfacher geworden -

Was erwarten wir vom noch ganz jungen Jahr? Weltpolitisch: dass es gelingt die Spannungen zwischen den sich bildenden Blöcken abzubauen und damit Stellvertreterkriege insbesondere in den wenig entwickelten Regionen unserer Erde aufhören. Wirtschaftspolitisch: Eindämmung der Inflation trotz hehrer umweltpolitischer Ziele und dass es gelingt Freiheit und Verantwortung in ein Gleichgewicht zu bringen, die gesetzliche Regelungen auf ein Minimum reduzieren. Kulturpolitisch: Weltweit Freiheit für die Kunst und ihre Ausdrucksformen mit der Möglichkeit eines offenen, informierten Dialogs ohne ideologisch verbrämte Scheuklappen und dazu gehöriger Sprachgängelung. Informationspolitisch: Trennung von Berichterstattung und Kommentar. Wer jetzt das Gefühl hat, hier träumt einer liegt damit vermutlich nicht ganz falsch - aber ohne Träume keine Zukunft.

Wir lernen mit der Pandemie zu leben und freuen uns auf die ein oder andere Ausstellung, die dennoch mit internationalen Leihgaben zu Stande kommt und auf einige Kunstmessen ab März, April. Die Biennale in Venedig ab Ende April wird Omikron nicht zum Opfer fallen, zu viel frische Luft drumrum. Ob NFT da eine Rolle spielen? Der Kunstmarkt war jedenfalls 2021 ziemlich stabil und kam locker an 2019 ran. Das lässt doch hoffen.

A supplement to the list of those who died last year - the gallery owner Michael Schultz died on December 28, 2021 shortly after his 70th birthday after a short illness. During his lifetime, the allegations against him were not conclusively resolved.

It was surprisingly quiet at the turn of the year - only those who had procured fireworks outside the German borders were able to shoot around a bit and drive away the bad spirits of the old year. However, Omikron is proving to be quite resistant to the old superstitions and is making travel more tedious and attendance at some workplaces the exception. The insurance industry is glad to finally turn over a new leaf and close the books for 2021. While in 2020 it was the pandemic-related default risks that are no longer insurable today, in 2021 it will be natural hazards and cybercrime that will mess up the balance sheets alongside the classic risks of a non-life insurer. In the insurance broker market, mergers and acquisitions are taking place happily - Ecclesia, GGW and Trowe stand out here. Even MLP now wants to leave the university sphere and is buying know-how in the industrial business through mergers. Austria and Germany have new chancellors - only in Switzerland it is still the same Federal Councillor.

The weights in the art market are shifting a little towards France, thanks to Brexit, and from 10 Downing Street comes the advice to stop using the term. In view of empty shelves, slow medical care and other problems in the infrastructure, the island people are learning that splendid isolation is a recipe from the centuries when people could still get by without global networking and foreign languages. But perhaps that was the mistake - outside the United Kingdom, English is also spoken... .

20 years of the euro, already at least two (not biological) generations growing up without a national currency - not only for travellers has life become much easier as a result -.

What do we expect from the still very young year? In terms of world politics: that we succeed in reducing the tensions between the emerging blocs and thus put an end to proxy wars, especially in the less developed regions of our planet. In terms of economic policy: that inflation is contained despite ambitious environmental policy goals and that freedom and responsibility are brought into balance, reducing legal regulations to a minimum. Cultural policy: worldwide freedom for art and its forms of expression with the possibility of an open, informed dialogue without ideological blinkers and the associated language control. In terms of information policy: separation of reporting and commentary. Whoever has the feeling that someone is dreaming here is probably not entirely wrong - but without dreams there is no future.

We are learning to live with the pandemic and are looking forward to the one or other exhibition that will nevertheless come to fruition with international loans and to some art fairs starting in March, April. The Venice Biennale from the end of April will not fall victim to Omikron, too much fresh air around it. Will NFT play a role there? In any case, the art market was pretty stable in 2021 and easily matched 2019. That gives us hope.
